Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Yelena. I was born in Ukraine but have lived in the US for over 20 years.  I am a nurse by profession but I am most passionate about being a wife and a mother.   My faith and family are my life.  Leading a God honoring lifestyle is our family's goal.

I believe in doing everything to the best of my God-given abilities -- from being a wife, to raising children, to keeping a home.  One of the ways I take care of my family is by keeping them healthy.  We focus on simple and wholesome living, which naturally translates into my cooking.  It is all about real food!  My two boys keep me very busy, so whatever I cook must be nutritious, delicious and simple.  I am not a gourmet cook by any means so you won’t find anything fancy here.

I enjoy modifying traditional recipes to provide optimal nourishment.  I often substitute ingredients or add my own.  I try to avoid wheat/gluten, all processed, pre-packaged, commercially prepared, and man-made ingredients.  I aim to utilize ingredients of the best possible quality, including homegrown/organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats and dairy, organic/free range game, wild seafood, and healthy fats.

Among others, butter and sea salt are two ingredients I highly value and use daily.  Butter made from milk of grass-fed cows is a great source of a healthy fats, vitamins A and D, and anti-oxidants, such as vitamin E and selenium.  Sea salt enhances food with essential minerals that are necessary for the many functions of the body.  As if that wasn't enough, butter and sea salt simply make everything taste better!

Requests for health advice and recipes from friends and family have prompted me to create this blog.  As I myself learn and grow, I look forward to sharing healthy living tips and my favorite recipes, which I hope will inspire my readers to live better!
